SKATE LESSONS WITH GABRIEL

Can you really learn to ollie in a day?

Well the way I teach and tutor, I want to say YES, YOU CAN! So grab a board and let’s start cruising!

My name is Gabriel Grider. I'm originally from Claremore Ok. Born at the Indian hospital and raised there until we moved to Fayetteville when I was 13. Ever since then, this gorgeous area has been home to me. I was introduced to skateboarding by my older brother in 1990 with a Caballero deck bought at Gagzooks. 3 years later, on my 11th year birthday, I would receive my first professional skateboard from my grandma. Ever since then skateboarding has been a part of life. I ride for Villain Skateboard Co. and The Groove Skate Shop.

My current set up is an 8.25 Villain deck, Thunder trucks, Villain Grip,  Villain 54mm wheels, Red Bones bearings, and Villain bolts.

Whether you want to learn how to ollie, drop-in, cruise, or maybe you want to become the next Nyjah or Oneil. I want to help make your dreams a reality. I focus on safety, balance, education, perseverance, and most importantly the enjoyment of skateboarding. From beginners to Pros, skateboarding is challenging and can be discouraging at times. But with my 25+ years of experience, I’m going to ease that challenge and teach you how to progress quickly. With my tutoring, any trick can be mastered.

The ultimate goal for my tutoring and experience is to help you be as successful as you can be on a skateboard. Maybe you're the next professional skater from NWA!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I really learn to ollie in a day?

With over 25 years of experience in skateboarding and the way, I teach/tutor, breaking each step down. I want to say YES, YOU CAN!

  • What will I learn in a skateboard lesson?

I focus on progression. Every skater progresses at different rates, from ollie to switch hardflip, from flat ground to handrails. We will determine what steps are needed to advance in each lesson.
One main goal for first-time skaters is to become educated in the equipment and gear they will skate and to also become street and/or skate park ready, this includes pushing, turns, ollies, and dropping in. Once the fundamentals are established, the possibilities are endless.

  • You mention gear, aren't all skateboards the same?

Unfortunately, they are not. The equipment and gear in skateboarding are all made different. Knowing and learning the technology of each brand and woodshop will help you progress at a tremendous rate.

  • Can't my kid just watch youtube and social media tutorials to learn how to skateboard?

Absolutely, and I highly encourage that! But youtube won't be able to correct mistakes, wrong foot positioning, or weight and pressure placement. You won't get personal encouragement or skate support at skate parks or on the street. My lessons are one-on-one courses of personal achievements towards progression and making your dreams on a skateboard a reality.

  • How often should I schedule a lesson?

I suggest scheduling at least one lesson a week. This allows you to keep a consistent schedule/ instructor and have time to practice or go take it to the street or skate park on your own.

  • You mention skate support, what is that?

For beginners and even for some experienced skaters, skate parks can be an intimidating place with many egos, attitudes/vibes, and personalities congregating in one area. I will be right there to discourage any intimidation of being a beginner or learning something new, to get you stoked, and to get you comfortable cruising the park.

  • What is Slow-mo Video Analysis?

It is a Slow-Motion Playback. By reviewing your tricks 240 frames per second, you get a closer look at what went wrong and how to improve it. Notes and Drawings are added to the edit to focus on correcting errors and mistakes. There are a lot of tools that can help you improve as a skateboarder, and one of my favorites is slow-mo video analysis coaching.

  • Should I tip my Instructor?

I greatly appreciate your tips!

  • Do lessons expire?

Lessons do not expire.

  • If I have two kids that want to take lessons can they both use the same package?

Absolutely! I offer Family Lessons for this reason. I will also have a recommendation on how to best use the time according to your kids' progression. *NOTE: Pricing is different for family lessons

Thank you for joining the Skate Lessons with Gabriel program, I can't wait to skate with you!
